Turmeric or Haldi in Hindi is one of the most highly used spices in India and other countries like USA, UK, Japan and Middle East. The turmeric plant is from the Zingiberaceae family and its scienfic name is Curcuma longa L. The plant's Rhizome is utilized commercially. Whether vegetarian or non-vegetarian, turmeric is utilized in almost all the Indian food preparations. Popularly known as 'Indian Saffron' because of its bright yellow colour, turmeric is mostly preferred as dried powder in India. Turmeric is known as a traditional herbal remedy in the Ayurvedic medicine. It prevents various ailments like stomach problems and acts as a strong antiseptic agent.
