Various traditional Kerala Ayurvedic treatments that we offer are:
Abhyangam (Oil massage)
Abhyanga is the procedure where the body is massaged using a medicated oil all over the body. This imparts moisturizing, complexion, stability, destroys fatigue and disturbances due to vata dosha.
The treatment is done in 4 postures.
Sitting - Erect position
Lying - Supine position
Left lateral position
Right lateral position
Kaya seka (Pizhichil)
Kaya Seka is the process in which the body is made to perspire by means of pouring of warm medicated oil in a specific manner.
Dhara (Sirodhara)
Sirodhara is the process in which medicated oil, milk, buttermilk is poured in a continuous stream on the forehead in a specific manner.
It is of 3 types.
Ksheeradhara (Dhara with medicated milk)
Takradhara (Dhara with medicated butter milk)
Tailadhara (Dhara with medicated oil)
Sirovasthi
Sirovasthi is the procedure where in the medicated oil is retained on the head for a prescribed period.
Njavarakizhi
Njavarakizhi is a procedure by which the whole body or any specific part thereof is made to perspire, by the application of certain medicinal drugs with Njavara(special variety of rice that grows in 60 days.) rice puddings externally in the form of boluses tied up in a muslin bag.
Ilakizhi (Patrapotala Sweda)
This is a type of Swedana Chikitsa (fomentation) wherein leaf poultice are used to give fomentation on whole body or any specific part.
Narangakizhi
In this procedure lime poultice are used to give fomentation and massage all over the body or any specific part.
Podikizhi (Choorna Sweda)
This is a type of Swedana Chikitsa (fomentation) wherein medicated powders of drugs like vacha, sarshapam, jatamamsi, etc. are made into fine powder, fried and tied in cloth pieces in the form of boluses and used for giving fomentation.
Udwarthanam (Dry Massage)
Udwarthanam is the treatment where in the massage is done with powders of medicines. The powder is rubbed forcibly on the body in upward direction.
Njavarathepu
This is a special type of treatment prevalent in Malabar (northern Kerala) for the diseases of the nervous system. In this procedure the whole body or any particular part, is made to perspire by means of the application of a kind of Payasa or Pudding, specially prepared for the purpose with the Njavara rice, milk and decoction of Bala (Sida Rhombifolia).
Talapothichil (Application of Medicated Paste on the Head)
This is a special procedure widely practiced in Kerala. Drugs like amla, etc. are cooked in medicated liquids like buttermilk, etc. and made into fine paste and applied on the clean shaven head.
Ahalia aims at disseminating the knowledge of Ayurveda by health education and practice. The two purposes for which Ayurveda was evolved, viz. maintenance of health and curing the disease are being rightly conceived and made practical at Ahalia.
