Split spoon samplers are used for Standard Penetration Test for determining penetration resistance (N Value) of soil which can be related to unconfined Compressive strength, Penetration resistance (N Value) of soil is determined by giving a number of blows with a 65kg weight falling through a given distance of 75 cm required to penetrate the assembly to a depth of 30cm, when properly seated on the ground.

It consists of:
Body, split lengthwise, 50.8mm outer dia x 35mm inside dia.
Shoe, hardened, with an inside cutting edge of 35mm dia
Head fitted with a ball check valve and adapter to connect to 'A' type drill rod.
MTS -165 Split Spoon Sampler with Liner
Same as MTS -164 but the dimensions are adjusted to accommodate a brass liner. Supplied with a Drive weight, 65kg and Guide Pipe Assembly.
