A Safety Fuse consists of a gunpowder core in a textile jute yarn, coated with bitumen and another waterproofing agent, and having an outer wrapper of sturdy textile or synthetic. They are made in a standard diameter intended to be crimped into detonator Once ignited; security fuses will burn underwater, and have no obvious flame that might burn methane or other fuels which might be seen in mines or other industrial environments. Safety fuses are constructed with specified burns times.
