Rotary atomizers are used in spray drying to atomize the feed into fine droplets. Kinetic energy is imparted to the rotary atomizers for atomization of the liquid. The kinetic energy is harnessed from the rotating wheel. The pattern of the droplets of atomized liquid depends upon several factors like liquid properties, disc speed, disc configuration etc. Bulk density of the liquid is also one of the factors for spray dried products. Different atomizer wheel configurations, optimum atomizer speed and optimum relevant feed properties yield desired results.
