Application:

VHT purge valves used to relieve compressor separator pressure when off.

Surgery

Purge valves offer two functions.

At start-up, the valve is close to allow the pressure of the oil separator to accumulate

When shutdown, when pressure is applied, the valve opens to purge the air-oil oil separator into the atmosphere. The bleed valve can be used as a bypass valve to purge air from the compressor at start-up.
