This reagent is rapidly penetrating one and preserves the smears which are to be stained by hemotoxylin and eosin. In the case of an urgent biopsy, this reagent is used in routine. It permits good nuclear staining which tends to cause shrinking and hemolysis of erythrocytes. The Papanicolaou Method is used for the staining of the cellular components in smears of exfoliated cells.
