Manganous oxide is made by the reduction of manganous dioxide (MnO2) by carbon, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, or hydrocarbons at temperatures between 400° and 800° C. Although it occurs naturally in manganese ores, manganous dioxide is usually produced synthetically.
