The analysis of Hydrogen in Molten Aluminium is important and essential due to the fact that Hydrogen has high affinity to get absorbed in Molten Aluminium. At the same time, when Aluminium solidifies, more or less all the dissolved Hydrogen is released. As Hydrogen gas leaves the solidifying metal, it leaves tracks in the metal in the form of porosity. Such porous Aluminium castings are not acceptable in the industry for obvious reasons. To avoid this kind of porosity, it is important to degas the metal before it is poured into moulds for solidifying. It is therefore important to determine the extent of Hydrogen present in liquid Aluminium.
