Ferro vanadium is an alloy of iron and vanadium whose content is approximately 35-80 percent. Its production is carried out in an electric arc furnace. This alloy is used in the production of steel and hence finds application in many sectors such as construction of buildings, making of aircrafts and ships. Approximately 85% of vanadium produced is used as ferrovanadium or as a steel additive. The considerable increase of strength in steel containing small amounts of vanadium was discovered in the beginning of the 20th century.
