The sheets are composed of cells containing the same dry powder used to make conventional gel ice packs.One side of the sheet is a permeable synthetic fabric, allowing the dry powder to turn into a gel when immersed in water (5-15 minutes for full hydration).
Once hydrated, the gel is trapped inside the individual cells, creating a quilted sheet or blanket of gel ice packs. By trimming the sheets to fit into the shipping container, or to wrap around the product,the gel packs are kept evenly distributed for maximum effectiveness. The sheet configuration also acts as additional insulation by trapping the cold air next to the product.
