Biomass
India, being a tropical country, has tremendous potential for energy generation through biomass and its residues. Biomass energy is normally produced from firewood, agricultural residues such as bagasse, crop stalks, animal dung and wastes generated from agro-based industries.
Globally, India is in the fourth position in generating power through biomass and with a huge potential, is poised to become a world leader in utilization of biomass.
Potential in India - 16,000 MW (excluding co-generation)
Installed capacity - 630 MW
Project under implementation - 630 MW
In order to promote, popularize and encourage biomass based power generation, Ministry of Non Convention Energy (MNRE) has formulated a subsidy scheme to achieve the desired goal. National Productivity Council (NPC) has been chosen as the evaluating entity by MNRE towards ascertaining that the Biomass Power Projects are performing as per technical specification and at prescribed duty condition. Under the capital subsidy scheme of MNRE, NPC study team will carryout the performance assessment of biomass power plant (BPPs).
Deals in natural gas, mini hydro, biomass and municipal solid waste.
