Yakshis are ghost; these are not the usual dreadful blood sucking one but the elegant and beautiful female which is believed to be related to god. This painting on the lamp shade describes the scenic beauty of her standing beneath a palm tree and holding a traditional mirror called Valkannadi in one of her hand. She is trying to apply bindi on her broad forehead. Enchanting birds can be seen surrounding the tree. This painting is a imitation of the one seen on the wall of “Pundarikapural Temple” at Kottayam (kerala) and is believed to be done in the period 800 – 1800 AD. The lamp shade is made out of teak wood and is painted using natural colours.
