Animal Change Station

Additional Details

Animal Change station consists of following main components. The functioning of each component is described in following paragraph.

    Supply air unit
    Work surface
    Exhaust air unit
    Electrical panel
    Foldable Work desk
    Mano meter


Supply air unit: This consists of pre-filter, blower deck and laminar flow filter (Hepa filters). The blowers suck the air from the room and passes it through Pre-filter and Hepa filter. The filtered air is delivered on work surface in laminar pattern.

Work surface: This is the surface on which the animal change activity is carried out. The work surface is preformatted to allow the flow of contaminated air from surface to exhaust unit.

Exhaust air unit: This consists of pre filter, fan and Hepa filter. The unit extracts the contaminated air through perforations of work surface. Bigger solid particles are arrested by pre-filters and micro contaminations are arrested by Hepa filter. The filtered air is then discharged back in the room.

Electrical panel: This consists of power switch for supply and exhaust air fans, switch for lamp, fan speed regulator for both the fans and two nos. 5 amp. Power outlets (3 pin electrical socket with MCB). The fans can be operated and regulated as required through this panel board. Electrical Sockets are provided only for the instrument such as a weighing scale, data printer etc. The sockets should never be used for any external requirement, as this may damage the unit or the fuse may blow off.

Foldable Work desk: The desk can be unfolded for performing work on experimental animal. Also the same can be used for keeping instruments such as weighing scale. Normally, while using the unit as change station, the desks are folded back.

Mano Meter: This indicates the differential pressure between supply air plenum and the room where the unit is installed. The pressure is comparatively lesser when the heap filters are in clean condition. Gradually, pressure increases when the filters start clogging. The differential pressure varies also with the air quantity adjustment. Pressure is higher when supplier quantity is higher and the same is low when the supplier quantity is lower. The differential pressure reading on Mano meter helps judging the hepa filter condition. The pressure reading also remains on lower side if the pre filters of supply air plenum are clocked.
