Kaizen
Kaizen is a Japanese term that roughly translates as “to take apart and put back together in a better way.” It is a fundamental concept in effectively conditioning an organization to focus on continuous improvement.
5-S
Business process optimization begins with 5s, typically seen as the first Kaizen event in an organization, and the Lean catalyst for change. 5s is a Lean tool to improve safety, overall work conditions, compliance with environmental protection requirements, communication, efficiency, quality, and equipment uptime.
Value Stream Mapping
The Value Stream Map (VSM) is “a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste (non-value-added activities) through continuous improvement by flowing the product or services at the pull of the customer in pursuit of perfection.”
Problem Solving
If the solution was obvious, there would not be a problem. .. When problems arise, our natural tendency is to treat the most obvious symptoms of the problem, in the interest of identifying a quick and painless solution.
Quick Change Over
Changeover is defined as the amount of time spent between the output of the last good piece of a production run, and the first good piece of the next run. When managed inefficiently, changeover can become a breeding ground for waste, and is therefore considered to be high risk for decreased productivity and profitability.
Kanban
Kanban can be explained as the “visual record,” or the catalyst of activity that later becomes the foundation for the entire manufacturing process in a truly Lean company. Kanban can be established in several areas of the organization, including.
Cell Flow
The key concept in the cellular flow methodology is to develop complete, contiguous production lines dedicated to a particular product family. These lines should contain the equipment and labor necessary to complete all process and packaging requirements for orders in that product family.
