Solar panels on your roof collect energy from the sun and convert it into direct current (DC). Then inverter connected to the solar panels convert DC (DC) from electricity to alternating current (AC) electricity. This alternating current passes from the inverter, through the wires and into your net meter. From there it is distributed to you the use of electricity. If you do not use a lot of electricity then the rest of the electricity goes to the grid, where you can reduce your electricity bill in this process.
