Football is becoming more and more popular also in Finland. It is an intensive and engaging game that also the spectators enjoy.

The playing season is now longer than before and in many localities football is a year-round activity. The biggest challenge in the northern climate is to have a high quality playing surface for as many players as possible, under varied circumstances. Artificial grass OFFERS a functioning solution for varied conditions. In order to keep the field frost free all year round, it is also possible to install a heating system under the field.

The international football associations UEFA and FIFA control the qualities and testing criteria of artificial turfs. The tests aim at having artificial grass fields with optimal playing qualities, for the benefit of players. Longevity and durability are among the best advantages of an artificial grass field, provided it is well cared for. Normal yearly use of an artificial turf is about 1500 hours, but it can reach even 4400 hours/year, as a contrast to the only 150 hours a year of a natural grass field.

FIELD STRUCTURE

The elasticity required from a football field can be reached through different alternatives. All the alternatives aim at giving the turf surface the same resilience as natural turf would have. Below is a comparison of different solutions:

Artificial grass installed without a shock pad

Pile height of grass 55-60 mm. The grass is installed directly on compressed stone ash or on asphalt. To stabilise the structure, 10-15 mm of sand is laid to the bottom of the yarn before the crushed rubber.
