There re very few duties which requires a higher discharge current from a battery in relation to its nominal capacity than starting diesel and diesel electric locomotives. The very heavy starting current demands a battery which has a greater performance than any other battery of the same capacity and is also capable of withstanding vibration and physical shocks encountered under the arduous conditions of railway services.
