Leucoderma is also known as Vitiligo, which happens as a result of immune system malfunction. Vitiligo is caused by lack of skin pigment - melanin in the skin. This happens either due to destruction of melanin or because of a slowdown in its production. The condition does not cause any physical pain or discomfort but causes emotional distress in many patients due to the physical alterations and visible patches in the skin. The various factors that are believed to causes of the disease are excessive emotional stress, family history, worms, parasites, gastric disorders, deficit hepatic function, typhoid, external injuries or burns.
