Alpha hydroxy acid (aha) chemical peels:

    Glycolic acid (neostrata, usa) is alpha hydroxyl acid that occurs naturally in sugar cane
    Aha chemical peels are popular way to slough off layers of dead skin cells
    They encourage skin cell regeneration & require little or no recovery time
    During aha chemical peels, glycolic acid penetrates surface layers of skin & loosens dry, thick skin that makes complexion look aged and dull

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) chemical peels:

    TCA chemical peels are mid-level peels that involve applying trichloroacetic acid to skin

    After tca peels, superficial brownish crust forms over treated area which peels off within three to seven days

Crystal peeling/microdermabrasion:

    Here stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of skin) is partially/completely removed by light abrasion
    Method used includes mechanical abrasion from jets of aluminum oxide crystals that are removed/ vacuumed off through wand/hand piece through which abrasive particles come
    Microdermabrasion is used for removing sun-damaged skin as well as in removing or lessening scars (acne scars) & dark spots on skin
    The procedure is not painful & requires no anesthetics
    Microdermabrasion can also be used medically for scar removal when scar is raised above surrounding skin
