Overview
BHUJODI, was started with the prime aim to facilitate a helping hand to the devastated earth quake affected handicraft artisans of Kutch, in the year 2001. The organization was set up in the year 2002, initially to sell out all the handicrafts goods that were spoiled and reduced to rubbles in the earth quake and thus giving a relief to the starving artisans of the region. With a quick act to the situation, under the guidance and patronage of Mr. Deval R Shah, a space was taken on lease and provided with all amenities for display and spot selling off the products which were buried under the debris. The timely act of the dynamic and inspiring personality of Mr. Shah and his confident and devoted team of colleagues, a dream has become the bread earner for the diseased and grieving artisans of Kachchh region. BHUJODI” has started with a slogan of “no profit no loss”, to reach the craft loving communities as a whole and create traditional business opportunities for further expansion. This has played an important role in the success story of Bhujodi. Income that is generated was the only source to ensure the economic support to these artisans and no grants or financial supports are received from any source.
Now, BHUJODI is one of the prestigious Handicrafts Showroom in Gujarat and acclaimed its glories all over India and abroad. At this juncture, the urgency of the concept of Institutional Development and Organizational strengthening was the main issue in his mind and has become increasingly important in relation to development projects. He did choose the right path towards the issues like institutional development & strengthening, institutional capacity building, and organizational development. Thus he has given increased attention to the organizational set-up of projects and development activities..
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
- Increased attention to sustainability among Minorities.
- Increased attention to local capacity building
- Incorporation of local institutions and organizations in the development processes.
In association with the Pragati Mahila Seva Trust, a bridge has been build up to cater the required handicraft products to Bhujodi and ultimately generating employment to the minority & below poor level women artisans. It has been found that their absorption capacity was considered not as sufficient to be technically involved in a commercially viable project. Therefore, it was considered that development activities could be carried out more efficiently without involving local structures.
