Akay is promoted by a group of professionals and is presently manufacturing sodium carboxy methyl cellulose by using fabdocell process in their state of the art plant at tarapur (maharashtra). Bulk of the cmc is consumed by oil exploration and detergent industries, there is a huge market for export of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose to gulf countries, far east, europe, u. S. A. , african countries and russia.

The purified grade of sodiumcarboxymethyl cellulose finds its application in pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, tooth paste, ceramic, textile, paper, paint, leather chemicals, foundry chemicals, welding electrodes and the other industries. The company has already started exporting the product and expects substantial orders in the future. The company is expecting to export 50% of the production and earn precious foreign exchange for the nation.
