A three piece design comprising body, hardened ferrule and a nut
Ferrule grips and bites into the positioned pipe when the nut is screwed to the body
When fully tightened, the ferrule slightly bows from middle and acts like spring
The spring action helps in maintaining continual tension between nut and the body
This prevents the loosening of nut during vibration or strain
