Noise generated by the electrical motor are mainly due to cooling air movement, having noise, magnetic noise due to cyclic variation of magnetic forces. Mounting the silencers on air-conditioning intake & outlet opening decreases the noise considerably. Larger size motors tend to emanate noise from the casing due to magnetic forces which may require an acoustic hood.
